Davis Conolly’s Final Project Portfolio

Project Summary

For my final project portfolio, I decided to photograph my friend’s extremely athletic Border Collie- Australian Shepard mixed breed dog named Lucy.  Lucy loves to run around the yard and will chase anything that you throw, including huge tree limbs.  She is very fluffy and soft and I think I was able to capture this during my shoots, specifically when the sunlight hit her fine fur.

Lucy changes speed and direction very quickly which can lead to some spectacular action shots, although they were difficult to capture.  Most of the shots in my portfolio are action shots for this reason.  She is very photogenic and well-behaved so shooting the portrait shots were easy.

I have decided to caption the photos as if Lucy were an olympian training for the upcoming games with the help of her dedicated trainer (owner).  I also tried to use sports toys as much as possible so the shoots would be sports related, because this is sports photography.

Photo Captions

Photo #1: Lucy works on her change of direction speed while holding a football. Turns on a dime!

Photo #2: Lucy works on her hurdling and vertical leap ability while making sure to keep eye-contact with her target. Focus is key!

Photo #3: Lucy takes a much needed breather while relaxing on the grass in between sets.

Photo #4: Lucy doing some retrieval drills to work on her speed and focus, getting some serious air in the process.

Photo #5: Lucy with the eye of the tiger, focusing on the ball in order to work on focus and visualizing the goal.  Practice how you play.

Photo #6: Lucy stretching out while running some stadium stairs, this drill works on endurance and speed and helps loosen her up at the start of the day.

Photo #7: Lucy is just on a casual jog but she is working on her ball-carrying ability in order to not drop it when most important.

Photo #8: Lucy takes the time to take a picture with her dedicated trainer who works tirelessly in order to make sure she is at the top of her game at all times.  Lucy says that she would be nothing without him.
